Title: American History X :Directed by: Tony Kaye : Music Title: Complications :Music by: Anne Dudley

American History X is one of the most saddest heartbreaking films I have ever seen but it is also a very real and amazing film. Unfortunately racism like this has occurred and are worst than what we see in the film and that is the sad reality of our history. The music in the film helps create a very unsettling and uneasy place for these people to live. You feel like you yourself is being drawn in by the music, that when you walk down a street you have to look over your shoulder. The characters are white supremacists that are racist to every race but their own. The setting takes place in the heart of the hood where there is major segregation and hate from all types of race and color. Anne Dudley did an amazing tone to kind of get in the head of the characters. The music piece I choose was Complications from the scene major scene of the whole movie where these African American men are breaking into the main character Derricks car and his younger brother Danny tells him. He prepares to go outside with his gun loaded and the action begins. The music in this scene makes you want to grip the pillow and you can feel your heart beating, kind of like you are expierening it with the characters. The music dramatically gets low and all of gets higher and higher and when Derrick explodes out of the house you hear the silent bangs of the gun and no back ground music. Thats when things get very intense and the music just plays on from there getting louder and a type of rushing tone to it. The music really draws out emotions to help you really get into the movie. I believe the background music really dramaticised the film and made it as great as it is. I cried at this part, and felt a rush of aderaline pumping as I wondered whats going to happen. I grabbed a pillow and I could just hear my heart beating out of my chest like I was so nervous and just in a horrified awe of what I was watching. The music for this scene was absolutely amazing. Dudley did an amazing job with creating a horrifying and seat clenching music to help really make the scene stick to viewers. Her work in this whole movie really did add alot of drama and heart pounding moments to make this movie really great.
