Title: American History X :Directed by: Tony Kaye : Music Title: Complications :Music by: Anne Dudley

American History X is one of the most saddest heartbreaking films I have ever seen but it is also a very real and amazing film. Unfortunately racism like this has occurred and are worst than what we see in the film and that is the sad reality of our history. The music in the film helps create a very unsettling and uneasy place for these people to live. You feel like you yourself is being drawn in by the music, that when you walk down a street you have to look over your shoulder. The characters are white supremacists that are racist to every race but their own. The setting takes place in the heart of the hood where there is major segregation and hate from all types of race and color. Anne Dudley did an amazing tone to kind of get in the head of the characters. The music piece I choose was Complications from the scene major scene of the whole movie where these African American men are breaking into the main character Derricks car and his younger brother Danny tells him. He prepares to go outside with his gun loaded and the action begins. The music in this scene makes you want to grip the pillow and you can feel your heart beating, kind of like you are expierening it with the characters. The music dramatically gets low and all of gets higher and higher and when Derrick explodes out of the house you hear the silent bangs of the gun and no back ground music. Thats when things get very intense and the music just plays on from there getting louder and a type of rushing tone to it. The music really draws out emotions to help you really get into the movie. I believe the background music really dramaticised the film and made it as great as it is. I cried at this part, and felt a rush of aderaline pumping as I wondered whats going to happen. I grabbed a pillow and I could just hear my heart beating out of my chest like I was so nervous and just in a horrified awe of what I was watching. The music for this scene was absolutely amazing. Dudley did an amazing job with creating a horrifying and seat clenching music to help really make the scene stick to viewers. Her work in this whole movie really did add alot of drama and heart pounding moments to make this movie really great.

Blog Post #4

The person I chose is a writer and director Todd Phillips who worked on Due Date, The Hangover Part 2 and Road Trip focusing more on comedy. This interview aired June 1st 2011.
From listening to Todd speak he is really big on asking viewers their opinions especially for the naming of the Hangover 2, he decided to call it the Hangover Part 2 instead of Hangover number 2. The way he portrays most of his movies is creating a surreal and sense of reality in his movies. He believes in life we all go through absurd situations but in a sense it is a part of reality that he likes to incorporate into movies to really connect to viewers. He believes people talk to each other in colors but if you take all that out you get the truth of how young adults and people really talk now a days. Its all about keeping up with the generation and trying to produce something that keeps people entertained.
In his interview Todd Phillips quoted " Never apologize for bad behavior in these comedy movies." I believe this is a significant quote because most directors in my opinion feel like using such vaguer language and inappropriate language is crossing some sort of line but Phillips isn't afraid to go above and beyond and having no line of boundary to make is movie work accordingly. I really like that about a director who isn't afraid to reach out to a younger demographic and in some sense make adults who are against saying certain things laugh and crack a smile.
The second quote I got from Phillips is," People think that children are magical little creatures, but they are just little people just as screwed up as adults, If anything I don't think they are as precious but more resilient than adults." I honestly thought this quote was very funny when I heard it. He stated in his films he doesn't use kids like they are kids but if he needs them to be vaguer and inappropriate in his movies he will. It really made me laugh because when I heard him say this I think of a rebellious high school kid just not caring and he is a very well known director that doesn't have the same mentality about children like most of the world does.
The last quote I choose is "When you try and make a movie to please everybody you end up making a movie for nobody." This quote doesn't just apply to movies but it applies to life. Not every person likes the same things, everyone is different in their own way. Phillips said his goal is to please the people that enjoy watching comedy and that the audience he mostly tries to please. A lot of people out their who don't enough certain type of inappropriate humor wont enjoy his certain type of movies
In my opinion I think his movies are so funny and inappropriate at times but not to the extreme. I choose him because I enjoyed Hangover Part 2 and when I saw the other movies he directed I knew his personality incorporated into these movies were not like any other director. He reminded me in a way of the rebellious kid in high school who was not only a bad boy but also very funny and intelligent. He spoke with a voice of confidence and truly capable of saying what he felt of regardless of the reaction he got back.
